I'm in Bern, Switzerland until mid-April

admin
Thought I'd see if anyone else is in Switzerland! I've yet to meet a digital nomad here, but the country has so much to offer.

The cost of living is certainly high, but I'm able to live on a budget by doing outdoor activities for free (hiking, biking, rollerblading, skating, etc.) and making all my own meals.Β

Would love to meet up if any of you are here over the next few weeks!Β

I'm Sarah, digital nomad and marketing manager currently in πŸ‡¨πŸ‡!

admin
Hey everyone!Β

I've been a digital nomad for a couple of years and am currently in Bern, Switzerland. A few things about me:Β

  1. I love hiking! If there are mountains where I'm located, you can usually find me there on the weekends.
  2. I mostly travel solo. Therefore, I'm always trying to meet new people while traveling. Hope to meet up with some of you in person! I'm either going to head to Croatia or Mexico in the spring, so looking forward to seeing where everyone is.
  3. I'm gearing up to start an MBA in August. Any digital nomad students out there? I'm starting my part-time MBA online while working full-time and would love your tips.
Really excited to meet and learn from all of you!Β

How do you workout while on the road?

admin
It was hard for me to stay consistent with workouts during the week when changing locations every month or so. Sometimes I have access to a gym or weights, but then other times it's hard to even get out on the road and run due to the layout of the city I'm in.Β

So I've been pretty consistent with home workout videos within the past year. I purchase two 2-liter water bottles when I arrive to a destination and use them as weights πŸ˜…. I'll also roll up a towel to put under my knees/elbows for some moves if I don't have a yoga mat.Β

My fav workout so far is @tabu_fit IGTV workouts on Instagram on Monday's. Any fav nomad-friendly workouts out there?

New terms coined to describe work and travel ✈️

admin
I recently came across the term "bleisure," a combo of business and leisure travel: http://www.bbc.com/storyworks/capital/bleisure-bound/bleisure-travel-trend

Same goes for workation. IMO, seeing these terms pop up helps normalize PT/FT digital nomadism. So while I might not tell someone I'm going on a bleisure trip πŸ˜…, it can help businesses realize that offering remote work should be a permanent solution to work/life balance long after the pandemic.Β

Where's the best spot in Mexico for digital nomads?

admin
I'm considering spending 3+ months in Mexico and I'd love some recommendations on where to go near the beach or mountains. I'd like to avoid spending time in the super touristy areas.

What companies are offering permanent WFH/remote work?

admin
Loved to see Salesforce officially offer remote work permanently: https://www.businessinsider.com/salesforce-employees-can-work-from-home-permanently-2021-2

Twitter, Square, and Shopify have done the same. My guess is that these companies will have even more access to the best talent around the world through this.

I've met a bunch of digital nomads along the way who had to leave their office job to find freelance gigs since their employer wouldn't let them go remote. Excited to see that roadblock lifted for so many this year.Β

What are the best digital nomad visas?

admin
I've been traveling for a couple of years now and I'd like to stay in one place for longer than 1-2 month stints (maybe 3-6+ now).Β

So I'm planning to apply to one of the digital nomad visas that there's been lots of chatter about recently. I'm considering: Portugal, Croatia, or Estonia.

Love that Portugal and Estonia are in the Schengen zone, but Croatia seems to have a growing digital nomad presence and I love all that it has to offer (coast, hiking, coworking spaces).Β

Thoughts?Β
